Our last couple of days in Vancouver, Mike was able to take off and explore with us. Our first day we met up with Elaina and Ava again and went to the Vancouver Aquarium.
Located in Stanley Park, the Vancouver Aquarium is small but amazing!
Graeme enjoyed all the amazing tanks full of sea life from British Columbia.
It was so much fun getting to explore with Dad!
Sea Stars
Always a favorite - jellyfish
A new and creepy one (for me, at least)-sea snakes
Wolf Eels
Sea Slugs
On to the tropical fish
There was a great Amazon exhibit with frogs, birds and more!
Rainbow Python-its scales and colors were amazing
Caimens
Graeme loved the shark tank (Liam was asleep for most of the trip so far :-)
White Sided Pacific Dolphin
One of my favorite TV shows Psych is filmed in Vancouver and not long after coming home from our trip I watched an episode that was filmed at the aquarium. This tank and the dolphins were featured in the episode and it was very cool realizing we were seeing a place we had just been!
Graeme and Ava watching the dolphins
At the Beluga exhibit, one of the whales was making a new friend
While we were there, the trainers came out and took the three whales through their paces. It was very cool to see.
The gray beluga came right up near us
There are some large trees in the Pacific Northwest!
This stump made for great climbing and fun pictures.
On our way out from the aquarium we saw a "car of tomorrow". Definitely not one for someone with a couple of kids.
Later in the afternoon we took a walk downtown again and the boys explored around the old roundhouse that used to be the end point for the railroad into Vancouver. They have a steam engine, too but the reflection was too much for any of the pictures to show it well.
We walked by the arena where the hockey and skating events took place for the Olympics and where the Canooks play.
As we walked through China Town we headed over toward the Chinese Garden. It's normally somewhat expensive (at least while the boys are too young to appreciate it) but they had been filming a movie or TV show that day so we were able to walk in a little ways and take a peak for free.
The China Gate once again
The Street Lights of China Town
We then headed into Gastown to grab dinner and passed by the statue of Gassy Jack for which this part of Vancouver is named
Once Gassy Jack's Taverns, now The Old Spaghetti Factory . . . we had a very yummy dinner. It was very kid friendly and the wait staff really did well with a 2 year old customer!
Our final day of exploring was a bit overcast, but lots of fun as we went back to Granville Island to show Mike all the cool places we discovered earlier in the week
Graeme had a lot of fun with Dad along
Liam enjoyed the ride
Once again the rolling ball display in front of the concrete company was fascinating to a little boy in love with trucks and all things that roll
The concrete trucks were also advertisements of fresh food from the market
Can you guess what Graeme is holding on to?
It was a giant propeller
The children's market was so much fun
Good-bye Vancouver!
Looks like one GREAT adventure: always a challenge and great fun with busy little hands :)
